Our first-time camper program helps campers feel comfortable and at ease from the moment they arrive and throughout their entire time here. Whether it is a camper’s first time at any camp, or just the first time at Greenwood Trails, our relaxed & friendly atmosphere and thoughtfully tailored transition program allow new campers to quickly feel welcome and included in our camp family.
Family Handbook
Before camp begins, you’ll receive a comprehensive guide that will include all of the information you need to feel knowledgeable and ready for the exciting summer ahead!
New Family Liaison
When you enroll your camper in Greenwood Trails, we will assign a member of our senior staff to be your liaison. They are there to answer any and all questions you may have in the months and weeks leading up to camp, and alleviate your concerns – everything from “how many pairs of socks should I pack?” to “how do you handle homesickness?”
Camper Letter and Profile
We want to know all about your child before camp even starts! Every new camper will be asked to write a letter to their counselors telling them a little bit about themselves. Parents are also asked to complete a camper profile so that we know as much about your child as possible. This information is shared with the cabin counselors and senior staff so that they can ensure that your child will have a successful experience.
Welcome Phone Call
Shortly before camp begins, every new camper and family will receive a phone call from a member of our Greenwood Trails senior staff. We will help get you ready for the summer and answer any questions you or your child may have. And we’re always available any time you want to call us–at Greenwood Trails it is our pledge to be here for you!
Spring Fling
In early June, all new and returning families are invited to our annual event at camp. We start with a BBQ and some icebreakers, then we tour the facility, play games, have a mini campfire and make s’mores. It’s a great chance for campers to meet each other and our awesome staff!
Staff Training
Counselors and staff are carefully screened and hand-picked for their character, compassion, talent and enthusiasm for working with kids. All counselors go through an intensive week-long training to prepare for the summer and are mentored by our experienced senior staff throughout the summer.
Progress Phone Call
After 72 hours of a new camper’s arrival at Greenwood Trails, the family will receive a call with an update on how their child is doing. You can also feel free to call us anytime during the summer to get information about your camper.
Posting Pictures
While camp is in session, we post daily pictures of all the fun the campers are having to a secure site for parents. This gives you a window into what your camper is experiencing each day.
