While it’s not GWT’s favorite season, it’s still a great time of year! Your campers might be itching for a fun time outdoors and though it might not be the warmest weather, you can still bundle them up and send them outside with these great ideas that can still keep camp fresh in their memory:
Go for a hike: Look for bugs, appreciate the colors fall offers, listen to nature sounds, and smell that autumn smell!
Go A-Pickin’! Visit Lyman Orchards, in Connecticut close to camp- they’ve got lots of apple trees to pick from, a fresh market and an awesome corn maze. Turn it in to a bigger event by baking your freshly picked apples with your kids- make pies, pancakes, muffins, dumplings and other yummy treats. (And for you parents who don’t mind a mess- recreate a famous GWT mini-game of Goldrush by throwing some flour around- ask your kids how it’s played!)
Go Throw The Pigskin Around: Play a game of football- the sport synonymous with the fall! You don’t need to be great at the game or even understand all of the rules! It’s just great that you’re out there playing with your kids!
Prepare for Winter. Take up sewing and introduce your child to a limitless creative outlet! There are lots of free sewing patterns to help you and your children make the coolest scarves, hats, and gloves!
Make A Game Night. Try out some classic board games: Clue, Monopoly, Sorry, Life, Connect 4… Introduce your child to games you loved when you were a child!
Go Leaf Peeping! The Berkshires are a great place to go leaf peeping! Here’s a great link to help you plan your Connecticut fall foliage tour. http://gonewengland.about.com/cs/fallfoliage/a/aadrivect.htm
