Neutron Meets Glenn

Our 2016 puppy with a purpose passed his test this past Monday and is officially enrolled at Guiding Eyes for the Blind!  We love Neutron and look forward to watching him blossom in his next step as a guide dog.  After attending his last class with Kate, he met Glenn, Greenwood Trails’ next Guiding Eyes puppy.  It was such a great meeting, Glenn fell asleep.  It’s hard to believe these two are only one year apart!  16178693_872644582838123_5670640557301748684_o

Neutron whispers Greenwood Trails’ 4 Core Values in to Glenn’s ear

Hyatt and Kate accepted a certificate of appreciation from Guiding Eyes during Neutron’s last class.

Glenn will be making his first appearance as a Greenwood Trails camper at the 2016 Reunion on February 4th.  Can’t wait to see you all there!

Meet the 2017 Staff!

Welcome back, Stu!

Meet Stu.  Stu’s from Scotland and this will be his third summer at Greenwood Trails!  He can mostly be found amongst the trees on our adventure course but at times dresses as the Loch Ness Monster and hides in our lake.

“I love Greenwood Trails because it’s a place where you can be yourself with no judgment from anyone, regardless of the nonsense you get up to.”   We love you, Stu!  Glad you’re coming back for another summer!

2016 Summer Camp Survey Results

Parent and Camper Surveys: You Spoke and We Listened!

Over the summer, we ask both parents and campers for feedback about the Greenwood Trails Summer Camp experience. Campers filled out surveys at the end of each session, and parents filled out online surveys and, in some cases, had phone calls with a member of the leadership team. We received an incredible amount of helpful feedback from these surveys and calls.

We take all of your comments very seriously, as we’re dedicated to continuing to improve camp each summer. The leadership team has spent the fall discussing your comments and brainstorming the ways in which we can incorporate them into our programming for this summer. Here are some of the changes and improvements we’ll be making:

New Activities: We have some awesome new activities we’ll be introducing in 2017! These include podcasting, wilderness survival skills and digital photography. We love getting suggestions from campers and parents for new activities you want to see, so keep those suggestions coming!

Majors: We’re conducting an extensive review of all activities to ensure that each one provides campers the opportunity for personal growth and learning new skills, while always maintaining our fun spirit. There will be specific goals and outcomes for each, as well as opportunities for campers to showcase their talents if they so choose.

Swimming Instruction: A number of you said you’d like more swimming instruction for the Lenape campers (ages 8-12). We’re going to be enhancing instruction for Lenape campers, and will also have a time where it’s offered as an option to both Lenape and Delaware campers.

Food: According to our camper surveys, approximately 87% of the campers said they liked the food, 5% said they didn’t, and 8% said they sometimes liked it and sometimes didn’t. That’s a pretty good percentage when we’re serving so many kids with different tastes, however we want to do even better. We’ll be thoroughly evaluating our menu, bringing back all the favorites meals campers know and love, and will also be working with a professional nutrition expert to ensure that each meal is as healthy and balanced as possible. We’ll also be adding more options for vegetarian campers and staff.

Visiting Day: We’ll be keeping Visiting Day fun and relaxed, which is something many parents have mentioned that they particularly enjoy about it. But we will be adding a few details to highlight what some of your campers have been up to all summer, and to make sure parents have the opportunity to meet all their child’s counselors. In addition, we’ll have optional activities planned for children whose parents are unable to attend visiting day.

Thanks to all of you who took the time to fill out the surveys and participate in the end-of-summer phone calls. Your feedback is truly valuable and it only helps us to improve the camp experience for everyone. As always, if there’s ever anything you want to discuss, please reach out to Owen ([email protected]) or Kate ([email protected]).

Meet the 2017 Staff!

We’re so excited to begin announcing our 2017 staff!

Madi’s back this summer as a ropes instructor and we couldn’t be more excited for her. She loves Greenwood Trails because it’s a place where kids of all ages can grow and have so much fun doing it! Welcome back, Madi!

We are so excited to announce that we’re bringing back our special week-long D Session “Explorer Week” so that your kids can experience MORE FUN, MORE FRIENDS, MORE CAMP! It will take place August 6-12, 2017, immediately following C Session.

This year, D Session will showcase GWT’s “Greatest Hits” – all the the things your campers love most at camp. Campers will vote on their favorite activities using this super easy GREATEST HITS SURVEY, and the week will be crafted based on the survey results. Campers can start filling out the survey now! The week will also include:
A chance to specialize in something campers really love each day for the full morning: more elaborate arts projects, a sports extravaganza, a special robotics program offered only during D session, exciting adventure activities, wilderness survival skills, aquatics activities, and SO MUCH MORE!
Three awesome electives each afternoon.
An optional three-day/two-night Delaware Campout (Ages 13-16).

Campers staying over from C Session will take a trip to Lake Compounce Amusement Park on Saturday, August 5. On Sunday, August 6, they will go to a more local trip such as The Shoppes at Farmington Valley or a movie theater. Read about these trips HERE.

If your camper is only attending D Session, the tuition will be $1295. If your camper is adding D Session to any of our other sessions, the D Session rate will be $995, which includes the trips on Saturday and Sunday. There is also a $20 canteen fee.

As a special bonus, we’re having our very own GWT BLACK FRIDAY SALE for D Session. If you sign up by Black Friday, November 25, you’ll receive a $100 Discount off the regular rate. Just enter the code FRIDAY in the coupon section when you enroll for D session.
